The Lucetian X-Files
Welcome to the Lucetian X-Files, as compiled by Special Agent Fox Mulder. This is his attempt to research Luceti and uncover the truth behind its mysteries.
All files are all written on regular paper, kept off-journal and locked up in Mulder's room. For the most part they're just on basic, looseleaf paper, for the time being handwritten (woe for a computer!) and stuffed into folders. All the files are decently organized according to category and file number, despite sometimes differing in quality, depending on Mulder's mindset at the time (he's trying to be professional here, but damn is it easy to get personal when you don't have people to report to). Currently, one file is missing from the collection- the File labeled X-20071017- 4.
OOC notes are listed here and there as applicable and oocly links are provided to give a reminder/context for the events being described.
General Lucetian Files
Files relating to the regularly observed oddities of Lucetian life, rather than experiments themselves. These include anything with more long-term effects or events that are constantly ongoing, such as kidnappings, drafts, etc. Attacks are also included in this section of files since the war is an 'ongoing' event unrelated to experiments.

X-20071017- Individual Experiments/Abductions | Case Studies
Description: Abductions are regularly carried out by the Malnosso scientists, for a variety of purposes. These appear to utilize the 'shift' technology of the wide-ranging experiments, but on an individual scale.
Commentary: Descriptions and individual case studies to follow.

Description: Drafts routinely involve sending large numbers of villagers to fight armies of the Third Party. Missions are a newer addition, involving smaller groups or individuals on more specific work (not necessarily involving fighting).
Commentary: Individual studies to follow.

X-20110327402 - Species Transformation
Duration: Seven Days
Description: Residents were transformed into different species. All variants observed originated only from known worlds of current residents, suggesting that there was no basis for outside transformation (a theory which is not conformed). The transformations ran a wide range from mundane entities to peculiar, alien life.
Commentary: As far as experiments go, this one appears to fit the 'standard' apparently set by those of the past. In this case, we had a physical alteration of form, but with the individuals retaining their normal personalities. Any alterations in mental state were a direct result of the newly altered form. My own experience entailed being turned into a form that I believe to be extraterrestrial in nature- a large purple entity, with an equine body, extra digits on the hands, no mouth. To compensate for the lack of a mouth, I had telepathic powers, and ingested nutrients directly from the soil via the feet. The tail was also of note, having a shape distinctly like a bladed weapon.
X-2011041828 - Luceti Natives
Duration: Ten Days
Description: Residents woke fully immersed in an alternate reality in which they had all believed that they were descendants of original Luceti settlers. Additionally, they believed they held familial relations to fellow villagers, regardless of species, age, or other impossible factors. 'Shifts' were known to be naturally occurring phenomena in this reality, and the Malnosso were known to be aiding the villagers in working against these Shifts. The so-called 'Great One' was the highest authority among them, worshipped with a religious fervor by many.
On the initial morning of the experiment, all residents experienced confusion upon believing themselves to be waking in the wrong locations. This was dismissed as a minor teleportation Shift by residents.
A few days into the experiment, a festival commenced, which was held annually in the shared alternate reality. The informant known as 'Catherine' visited the village along with an envoy of droids and an intern many know as 'Molly'. This group was observed moving toward the Battle Dome during this time, where their trace allegedly vanished.
Throughout the duration of the experiment, villagers began to dream about reality, widely dismissing this as an effect of another Shift. The dreams varied, but in all cases had something to do with past people, events, and places of villagers' real lives. The dreams grew more intense as the experiment progressed, suggesting a breakdown in the delusion we were subjected to.
Near the end of the ten days, beasts appeared within the village. They were a vicious species, roughly having the appearance of large canines. While they gave some villagers trouble, they appeared to be largely unconcerned with most residents, instead focusing their efforts on apparently tracking someone. This was especially evident in their behavior- even when trapped, their efforts were all toward escape. This target was confirmed to be 'Catherine.'
Whether or not this particular experiment was intended to run for a longer duration is unclear. However, intelligence from 'Catherine' does indicate that such an experiment has an application in their war, specifically altering villagers' minds in order to make them into willing soldiers for their drafts. This suggests that if they ever have the capabilities, longer-term effects might occur in the future.
'Catherine' was found to be using the Battle Dome as a temporary shelter immediately following the experiment, due to his actions against the Malnosso and a need to "lay low".
Commentary: Catherine is an ass.
X-2011061317- Personality Trait Loss/Amplification
Duration: Four Days
Description: Major personality traits of residents were either amplified to the extreme, or disappeared entirely. Affected residents as usual operated under the delusion that the change- in this case to their personality- was the normal state. However, even the affected noticed changes in others, if applicable.
Commentary: Alteration of a person's most important traits had a wide range of effects, both harmless and dangerous. Long-term psychological influences will have to be observed.
X-2011072631- Battle Dome Malfunction
Duration: Five Days
Description: The Battle Dome ceased functioning, resulting in abnormal alterations throughout the enclosure. Familiar areas from residents' home worlds appeared in extraordinarily lifelike simulations. Along with locations, hostile creatures and other individuals from these worlds likewise appeared. Unlike hallucinatory experiments, this one actually altered the environment in a way that everyone could view one another's worlds and creatures.
At the experiment's conclusion, it was revealed that the Battle Dome had been upgraded, allowing residents to enter it for the purpose of simply immersing themselves in offworld environments.
Commentary: There's no place like home, but I'll pass on seeing it again this way. The Battle Dome upgrade wasn't too shabby, though.
X-2011081831- Luceti Land
Duration: Thirteen Days
Description: An amusement park that suddenly manifested within Luceti, containing all manner of rides, games and entertainment that one might expect. The "themes" of many of these rides correspond to many people's own home worlds and experiences. Additionally, many of the prizes given out also reflect the people here and their worlds.
The official explanation as provided by Blue Ass on the journals: "My condolences for all the trouble. You were due for an experiment today, but I thought you might enjoy an amusement park instead. It seemed like the sort of thing the Great One would do."
Commentary: Suddenly, my goldfish tank is not so lonely. Although nothing malicious happened as a result of this "theme park", I still don't trust it. At its best, it's just a way of keeping the masses subdued.
X-20110925102- Fairytales
Duration: Eight Days
Description: All of the affected were made to believe they were part of various fairytales. The tales themselves generally were of Earth origin, from a number of different traditions from that planet. People acted out their "role", whether it was normal behavior for them or not. Interestingly, people didn't seem to gain any powers while under the influence.
Commentary: Not overall as disastrous as most personality-altering experiments, but that probably depends on personal experiences.
X-2011112530- Horoscopes
Duration: Five Days
Description: All Lucetians received a horoscope in their journals, containing four different predictions. These predictions came true over the course of the following days. Effects ranged from the harmless and comical to the painful and dangerous.
Commentary: Standard stuff. It makes me wonder though, how much of this was set into motion by the Malnosso themselves, or if these were REAL horoscopes that were simply fated to happen. Think about it, if they control everything here anyway, they could have easily planned the effects for us and then made the horoscopes to fit. Then they could just kick back and observe in a social experiment of sorts.
X-2012012829 - Lost Weekend Phenomenon [[ooc; Fourth Wall]]
Duration: Two Days
Description: All memories were irrecoverably lost village-wide for an entire weekend. We went to bed Friday and woke up Monday. Some people observed vague clues that indicated that we were awake and aware during this weekend. Whatever may have happened, we weren't frozen in stasis.
Commentary: This is apparently not the first time, and I gather it's an annual occurrence. If I'm still around next year at this time I'll be sure and note the dates as an amendment to this file.
My speculations on WHY this happens:
I also have strong concerns about the nature of what they made us forget:
They can't possibly keep making the same mistakes repeatedly?Wait, look who I'm talking about here. For now, the truth behind these lost weekends remains unknown. Regression hypnosis could be worth looking into for memory recovery, if I can find anyone familiar with the technique.
X-2012012829-2013012627
X-20120326 - Battle Dome Attack
Duration: One Day
Description: A sudden attack on the Battle Dome by Droids. His Blueassedness was injured as a result. See journals for an earlier communication from the Malnosso regarding this.
Commentary: I wasn't there to witness this, but I also can't say I exactly would want to see
BluBil/Catherine die off. The villagers were right to save him. He's too important, has too many answers. I still don't know if he's entirely FOR us, but he seems less against us than most of Them.UPDATE: The Malnosso came back while a draft was going on several months later, to go after our Smurfy "friend" yet again. Several people were kidnapped as "decoys" of Bil in order to deflect attention from him. More information on what happened will have to be uncovered. A storm was raging the village in the meantime... and the self-repairing features on the buildings malfunctioned. Just great. All in all, I'm glad I was in space at the time.
X-2012040108- Visit Home and Anchoring Aftermath
Duration: Seven Days
Description: We were approached with a unique proposition- to visit our home worlds, or the worlds of another villager. This also brought about an interesting possibility... that one day people might be able to "anchor" themselves to another world and thus live there.
For the experiment, everyone could take one other person back to their home. Unfortunately, time travel within one's own world is not possible
or I would have gone home, and maybe tried to stop. But the ability to see other worlds or return home are both exciting opportunities. The duration of the trip was only for a day.Naturally, things didn't go as planned. (Who's even remotely surprised at this point, seriously?) Some people went to worlds they didn't expect, for one thing. Upon our return to the enclosure, some of us were thrown into an alternate reality. Unlike past alternate universe experiments, each pair of travelers shared a unique version of reality, that was NOT shared by anyone else in the village. For instance, I traveled to a world called Gensokyo, the home of a girl named Reimu. Upon my return, I believed myself to be from her world, and she shared that delusion. Problems especially arose when people remembered others within their own reality, who did NOT share a trip with them and thus did NOT remember themselves within that version of events.
WHY this mistake occurred remains unknown at this time.
There was also a further complication regarding this experiment's outcome. A corrective Shift was applied in order to restore the village. However, several 'errors' occurred, resulting in a need to manually restore some affected individuals to their true reality.
Commentary: Another FINE MESS from our friends in the labs.
Don't get me wrong, it was great to visit another world, and I intend to compile my findings from that trip, soon. There are also far-reaching implications for this project, especially for those who are deceased in their own worlds, and would like to start over for a new life. Who wouldn't take that chance, given the opportunity? It also has potential for people from different worlds who have formed relationships and close bonds here in Luceti.

X-20071017A -Death | Case Studies
I also hope to understand more about death and dying here, since it's not permanent. Death lasts approximately a week- sometimes a few days longer, but never less than that duration. When revived, villagers experience what's known as a Death Penalty, a loss of a memory, a power, or some other negative effect. Whether there's a pattern to what's taken remains to be seen.
The means by which the Malnosso accomplish their revivals is also a mystery.
Individual studies to follow.

X-20110510- Barcodes
Description: One of the most unusual yet not often discussed aspects of our alterations upon arrival are the barcodes on the back of our necks. (BASE OF THE NECK! Not THAT'S all too familiar...) What is its true purpose? We're being cataloged and classified like grocery store produce is that it!? Attempts to remove it are always unsuccessful- even with a full removal, the skin always grows back with barcode fully intact.
I can theorize a number of purposes: as the aforementioned classification device, a means to keep our data stored for their convenience. It could also potentially be used to track us, to keep a pinpoint on where we are within the enclosure. It might hold some connection to the experiments themselves. Certainly, these uses could also greatly aid their ability to kidnap us at any time.
X-20110510-2: Analysis of biodata transmitted by said barcodes has given us some clues to support these theories... but much still remains to be uncovered about them.
X-20110510-3: Thanks to an experiment giving me an unnecessary boost of paranoia, I can safely conclude that the barcode is the ONLY method of tracking they probably have on us. No metallic implants (that I could detect).
X-20110315- Filial Spirits
Description: These 'spirits' are known to grant villagers the use of various powers, many related to the elements. Some of them are allegedly friendlier than others. It is my hope to at least gain contact with each of these spirits during my duration in Luceti. Perhaps they hold answers about the nature of this place, but from what I'm told it's unlikely they'll share much.
Still, it's fascinating to think we have SOME kind of a true ally in this place. Who ARE they anyway? A naturally occurring part of this land? Are they trapped here like us? Even more fascinating than that is the ability to grant magical capabilities to ANYONE... even a regular human like yours truly.
My personal experiences with the Filial Spirits and their magic will be appended to this file as I encounter them.

X-201204280502- Lucetian RPG
Duration: Five Days
Description: The entirety of Luceti was made to follow the basic laws of a Role-Playing Video Game. Many individuals took on a "job class", from a physical fighter such as a knight, to mages, to dancers, tamers of beasts... to other jobs that one might see in a video game. Some individuals joined parties for the purposes of adventuring, fulfilling various quests. Others took on eviler abilities and goals, essentially acting as game bosses and other antagonists. Of interesting note was the fact that many people uninvolved in the parties or quests turned into what amounts to NPCs (non-player characters for those not down with the lingo). These people played roles around the village, such as giving out quests, providing needed items or similar.
Along with the effects on people themselves, many environmental alterations were noticed. For instance, people were able to enter all buildings and houses at will and take items from chests and other places that were not actual possessions of the inhabitants. "Random encounters" in the form of monster attacks happened frequently when traveling around the village.
Commentary: I wish I could say my role in this was exciting... I mean, it was, since my own personal quest was turned into a game: I had to collect certain items before I could face down my nemesis... who I never got to face, incidentally. Would it have been the damn Cancer Man? Who knows?
I am NEVER wearing a fool's cap again.I know, I know, the archetypal "Fool" actually has a unique role in the area of setting out on a journey-- look at its placement in a Tarot deck. However, I can only conclude that the Lucetian powers that be were poking fun at me...
X-2009012431- Total Recall
Description: I'm told this experiment happens repeatedly, so any future occurrences will be filed together. It tends to involve a repeat of past experiments, all happening at once... usually it's the experiments that have happened within the past year or so. As with most experiments, there's no pattern as to how people are influenced, with what effects.
It's kind of like a demented greatest hits CD.
X-2009012431-201205260605- Total Recall 3
X-2009012431-201205260605-1- Case Study: Alternate Universes
X-201207300804- Wonderland
Duration: Six Days
Description: An experiment with mostly environment effects, with doors leading to the wrong place, the landscape shifting dramatically and at random, the sky being the opposite of how it normally is, rain falling upward instead of down... Even the animals were affected, talking a hell of a lot more than usual. The trees were particularly vocal (see additional file). Journal communication was often mixed up, with words being replaced unexpectedly. Overall, nothing worked as it should have.
Commentary: Talk about malfunctions. I couldn't get off my ceiling for pretty much the entire duration. Observations of the sky were fascinating though, it was eerie but pretty cool to look at. The animals related some relatively embarrassing stories about themselves, too.
I had a very unfortunate tree encounter, explained further in its own file.
X-201207300804-1- Tree Gossip [Page ripped about three quarters of the way down]
X-201209271001- Anmesia [the paper still retains a faint odor of cigarette smoke]
Duration: Five days
Description: Complete loss of memory, aside from the basics. The affected had no memories of home, or anything in their past for that matter. They were also given cards with "helpful" information printed on them, which may or may not have been accurate.
Commentary: As with any mind-altering experiment, the effects could really take a toll on a person. There was mass confusion for everyone who lost their memories, and those cards we were given were often deceitful, or filled with partial truths only.
Mine read as follows:
"Greetings, your name is Alex Krycek. It seems you've lost your memory. Here's some facts about yourself:
1. The love of your life is somewhere in the village. You'll want to serenade her when you find her.
2. The person who killed your father is ALSO in the village. In a manner of speaking.
3. You're a heavy smoker, and so completely addicted you go through withdrawl without it.
4. You are a total skeptic and you KNOW that none of the magic or other weird things you see here are at all real. Better find new explanations for them.
Hopefully this is all just temporary. Be careful who you trust out there. People may claim to know everything, but you know what they say: Trust half of what you read and none of what you hear. Good luck!"
After the fact, I can see that someone was having some sadistic fun with me. The person who killed my father WAS Alex Krycek, so that was right. In a manner of speaking.
Ha. Classic mind games.
Funny that they tried to turn me into a Scully, and Scully into me. We met during the experiment and spoke, interestingly enough. But deep down it was very difficult to conform to the skeptical frame of mind, even if I've learned by now to "open my mind" to... skepticism.
God damn it all. How do you stop smoking these things. Note to self to grab some gum in addition to sunflower seeds at the store this afternoon. It's not an oral fixation, I swear!
X-2012112428-Scavenger Hunt
Duration: Five days
Description: The entirety of Luceti was transformed into five different areas, resembling various timeperiods and locations of earth. Roughly. We were given a quest to find two different key items in each area, promised a reward for getting them. Each area posed challenges, and our clothes and weapons transformed accordingly when stepping into each location. No physical or mental transformations.
Commentary: This was better than some effects we could experience, and I know that I had it better living in Gangland than the other areas. That's a place I could actually survive in, not to mention feel almost... more at home? More like I could put my skills as a federal agent to use, anyway. Sure, I don't miss the protocol or the paperwork, but there's something to be said for some of the old routines.
Areas that Luceti turned into were: Gangland, the Space Opera, the Shogunate, the Nile, and the Ice Age.
[[He adds a rough sketch, similar to the map in the ooc entry but much less detailed.]]
I managed to have great success in the Ice Age area, this despite my weapon turning into some kind of sling-based device, presumably the closest firearm equivalent possible. I also strongly enjoyed my time in the Space area, although its occupant were more robotic than organic, they STILL may have had extraterrestrial origins (After all, remember those cockroaches? If only I had the full file here, even if it was full of, well, crap.)
All in all, this was a refreshing break from the usual.

X-2012082331- Visitors from Kin'cora
Duration: One week
Description: A drought, short food supplies, power outages, other supplies out of stock... Furthermore, a bunch of refugees from the enclosure known as Kin’cora came to shack with us. From what I could tell, they ranged from all of the same worlds as us. Their descriptions of their enclosure sound like they have it worse than us- no electricity, for one thing. Most hadn't even been here that long and the experiments they endured sounded pretty nasty. Overall, I don't think many of them trusted us... and I could see why.
Commentary: Another day in paradise.
