[Late at night, Mulder is up and about, wandering aimlessly. He's just received Scully's letter so of course that's sending him into a bit of a broody mindset. Sleep? Ha, no, he's not planning to sleep for a while.]

[On the one hand, she's free of all of this. On the other... she's gone. His partner. The one person he trusts more than anyone. And what she's returning home to doesn't sound very pleasant. It's the future relative to him so he has no way of knowing just how safe she really is. He's not supposed to worry, but he can't stop himself from doing so anyway. The troubling thoughts that always come up at these times are there to bother him, too...]

How do we know they really send us home when we vanish from here, anyway?

For anyone who knew... anyone who knows her, Dana Scully has left the building. I'm sure she's relieved to be somewhere a bit more down to earth.

[ Marita's received her own letter, short and simple instructions. It is strange to think of Mulder without Scully, or that she and Mulder are the ones left here now. Had the Malnosso truly been finished with Scully? There are few answers to the handful of questions she has and it both relieves her and dissatisfies her that there is a way to leave.

She spends a good portion of the morning wondering that, despite living a floor above him, if she should give her condolences on the journal or go downstairs and speak them herself. The diplomat within her tells her that it's best to tell him in person, but the strange professional dissonance between them mixed with the strength of Mulder and Scully's own bond leaves her wondering if she should give him a curt apology.

Marita decides it's probably best to heed Scully's note and quietly heads down on floor, standing in front of the door to his living quarters. Hesitantly, she lifts a hand and knocks. ]

[That...well. She recognized that name. Knew what it meant to her friend.]

I'm sorry to hear that, Mulder. Would you...like to talk?

...I'm sorry, all the same. Need company for a drink or two?

We don't. But we believe it anyway. Call it a combination of optimism, trusting the Malnosso, and hoping that the experiences of some who've returned extend to everyone.

[Well... She has good news and bad news. Because she's the queen of overthinking as it is, so it's not as if she hasn't thought about this before - a lot.]

It seems to be true. After all, I remembered home, and some impressions of this place, when I returned. So it seemed likely I truly did return home when I left.

As for leaving, that seems true, since other people can confirm I was gone.

The exception would be if I was held by the Malnosso during that time. It would account for false memories, as well as my absence in the village.

I mean, it has to be home. People have gone home and come back, after all.

Sorry to hear that. [He didn't know Scully, but given how small the community is, it's hard not to comment when someone leaves it.] I dunno if it helps, but I'm sure we go home. Some of my friends have been brought here from a looong time before I was, and I don't remember 'em disappearing or anything!
