[Late at night, Mulder is up and about, wandering aimlessly. He's just received Scully's letter so of course that's sending him into a bit of a broody mindset. Sleep? Ha, no, he's not planning to sleep for a while.]

[On the one hand, she's free of all of this. On the other... she's gone. His partner. The one person he trusts more than anyone. And what she's returning home to doesn't sound very pleasant. It's the future relative to him so he has no way of knowing just how safe she really is. He's not supposed to worry, but he can't stop himself from doing so anyway. The troubling thoughts that always come up at these times are there to bother him, too...]

How do we know they really send us home when we vanish from here, anyway?

[Yeah, this is what happens when you overthink everything.]

For anyone who knew... anyone who knows her, Dana Scully has left the building. I'm sure she's relieved to be somewhere a bit more down to earth.

[That's the best way to travel, clearly! As for Mulder, he's stuck walking, not that it's very far to get there. Once he heads in, he glances around for the green hair.]

[She chose a corner booth, figuring he wouldn't want to be a social butterfly right now. Upon spotting him, she waves.]

[Good call, on that. Mulder heads over to the booth and takes a seat.]

At least it looks like we're in time for happy hour.

[Typical Mulderishness for the time being, as he settles in.]

[Rydia smiles and shrugs, leaning back.]

It can't hurt, can it? You look as though you need it, anyway.

I really do need it. I'm sure you know what it's like, even the thought of that one person you rely on above others, disappearing...

[They all live with it in the back of their minds, maybe some consider it more than others, but still.]

[She nods, visibly troubled.]

I think about it all the time. I try not to let anyone else know, especially him, but how can I not?

It's something that we all live with, in this place. Maybe unspoken most of the time, but it's still there, in the back of our minds...

...as is going back first. I just know he'll do something stupid without me to stop him.

[She takes a long sip, then nods.]

You don't know the half of it. I swear I've lost track of how many death penalties he has or had. And that's with me watching him, or trying to.

Ouch... [He does recall that as part of her husband's background here, still, it's unsettling to think of experiencing death so many times.] I can see why you'd want to be around, to prevent it from happening if you can... I know I'd want to do the same for Scully...

[She'd gone back "to face Death itself"... Whatever that cryptic statement ha really meant.]

She doesn't seem as prone to recklessness, that I've seen...though admittedly, I hadn't seen her more than once or twice outside the journals. [She shrugs and smiles.] But loved ones don't have to be, for us to worry about them anyway....

I think she sees me the same way that you view your husband. [He smirks a little at the thought, Scully has on many an occasion told him how crazy she thinks he is.] But... you're right. We always worry. I do. Even if I know damn well she's capable of looking after herself.
