[Late at night, Mulder is up and about, wandering aimlessly. He's just received Scully's letter so of course that's sending him into a bit of a broody mindset. Sleep? Ha, no, he's not planning to sleep for a while.]
[On the one hand, she's free of all of this. On the other... she's gone. His partner. The one person he trusts more than anyone. And what she's returning home to doesn't sound very pleasant. It's the future relative to him so he has no way of knowing just how safe she really is. He's not supposed to worry, but he can't stop himself from doing so anyway. The troubling thoughts that always come up at these times are there to bother him, too...]
How do we know they really send us home when we vanish from here, anyway?
[Yeah, this is what happens when you overthink everything.]
For anyone who knew... anyone who knows her, Dana Scully has left the building. I'm sure she's relieved to be somewhere a bit more down to earth.

Well, that's true for any of us. At least she's home, though. Away from the Malnosso and all of their experiments, and their war and all of this.
[Action]
[It's the one up side he can see to this, honestly. It was terrible waiting out any times she was abducted, dealing with that. There's just one thing bothering him, really.]
But I don't know how safe she's going to be back home...
[Action]
[She pulls back from the embrace, arms on his shoulders. She knows it's not the most comforting thing to hear, but lying isn't something she can do for anyone. There's no safety anywhere for anyone, it's all a misconception. She's lived long enough to know that.]
But there is...likelihood and chance. There, she has more of a chance of avoiding danger than here.
[Action]
[The conspiracy have not yet figured out THAT level of power. Yet. Mulder sighs quietly, thinking about something that he... doesn't talk about much, but has come to mind anyway.]
There was a time back home... when I thought I was going to lose Scully, to an illness. So I've seen firsthand how impermanent life can be, anywhere. After that struggle, I just... I hope that it wasn't for nothing. Her letter to me indicates that she's going back to face another life or death situation.
[Action]
[She musters all the conviction she can. Yes the universe can be a harsh place, and yes she's sometimes a strict, austere judge of life and death but she was here to be of comfort.]
Conviction and will are two things that will see you through any possible danger. And once that situation at home is over, she'll be safe. Here, who knows?
[She reaches over and holds up the bottle though]
A toast to her memory here?
[Action]
[Though they faced so many of those together, and it'll always sadden him a little that this stretch of time has to be faced alone. Still, he does trust her. She can take care of herself as much as he worries.]
[He raises his glass.]
To Scully.
[Action]
To Scully.
[And then Saori downs the cup, setting it on the table with a near grunt. That burns...]
[Action]
I can't give up. Even without her here.
[Action]
[She ribs him gently]
I may not be an FBI agent, but I'll still keep you together however I can.
[Action]
It could be a tough job, are you sure you're up to it?
[Action]
[Action]
[Action]
[She points to the basket]
I brought food, you know. Only the insane waste good food.
[Action]
Well, I don't want to end up committed or anything. Let's see what you brought.
[He starts digging into the basket.]
[Action]
[Action]
That's definitely not barbecue.
[Action]
[Action]
[Action]
[She laughs and starts setting out the table, pouring a bit of the thick, sugary sauce into a little dipping bowl]
I would not overdo it though, it's quite sweet.
[Action]
[Especially because, remarkably, as he digs in and dips a little on... it's actually not bad!]
[Action]
With Jack? Yes, yes they are.
[Action]
Yeah, I thought so. [Really, it spoils the joy in most food to know too much!] For what it's worth, my soul feels much better already... I'd say I'm getting converted.
[Action]
[Remember who you're talking too, Mulder. A religious figure in her own right.]
[Action]
Converted to the temple of Jack's special sauce. I guess I need to be careful about saying things like that around any kind of deities.
