[There's a squelching sound of someone falling into a very muddy area. Then that someone curses under his breath, followed by the distinct sound of some very angry toads who he's disturbed. Many of whom also curse along with the general annoyed croaking.]

Hello? Who's there? Who said that? Scully, are you with me? Can you hear me? SCULLY!?!

[There's a pause, and more muddy squelching. And more grumpy voices in the background as Mulder appears to have fallen into a whole clan of toads. He seems to take this in stride though, thinking aloud as he tries to gain his bearings. He picks up the book that's near him and eyes it curiously. It's very out of place here, but he's already drawing his own conclusions.]

Let me guess. I've finally been abducted by aliens. I knew it was a matter of time, but somehow I always assumed the experience would involve less falling face down in the mud, and more probing.

Not that I want any probing, I'll pass on that opportunity.

So now the question is- aside from where the hell are my real clothes- where am I? My theories include afterlife or parallel dimension, maybe a mix of the two with a dash of government-initiated kidnapping thrown in. It's not every day you wake up in someone else's clothes with wings sprouting out of your back for no reason. Wings that hurt like a bitch when I pull on the feathers, I might add.

[Yeah he already tried that. Is it really any surprise he's already tried that?]

So what's going on here? Who's responsible for this? Was I subjected to an experiment of some kind? Kept imprisoned as a test subject and cast off to the wilderness as soon as they were done with me? Is this Russia? It better not be Russia. I didn't have such great accommodations the last time I went there.

[...and is it just him or are ALL of the toads in the area looking ready to gang up on him? He's deciding he's overstaying his welcome here. Time to get moving. In some direction. So Mulder can be found hurrying the rest of the way through the woods and into town. He's covered in mud and followed close behind by a whole bunch of very disgruntled toads.]

And people haven't risen up against any of this? Who are these Malnosso? Are they aliens?

[He has to ask. HE HAS TO ASK. It's a possibility he's not ruling out, anyway...]

Um...aliens? You mean, are they human or not? They are, sort of, they're also scientists, and somehow they've found a way to seal off this area and do whatever they want with it. That's why people haven't escaped; they can't. And it's hard to rise up when we can't find them or their headquarters.

There's got to be something we can do! I refuse to just give up.

[Well, he knows what he's going to spend his time here doing trying to find some way to get to these mad scientists.]

How many people do they have in this enclosure?

Um...around three hundred, possibly a bit over that. I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but that can vary when they bring in new people.

That's quite an extensive operation they've got going here. Do they usually take in... Espers, like yourself? Magic users in general?

[Sort of makes him wonder 'why him' unless he's supposed to be in some kind of control group of 'regular' humans.].

There aren't any other Espers, but there's plenty of magic users about. That's the strange thing about his place--it's not as common where I come from.

[And that glow of hers begins to fade....]

But they're not all magic-users, I take it? Because if- Hey, are you all right?

[~~HE IS TOTALLY NOT STARING AT YOUR BOOBS THIS WHOLE TIME~~ Mulder notices that the glow around her is fading, and looks concerned it's something going wrong.]

[Terra sighs as she glances down--she knows what it means, of course. But there's no time for her to react, and the shift from glowing Esper to a much more human (except the hair) girl is abrupt.]

I'm...fine. This is also who I am.

[And she hadn't been planning to show him that, but now it's too late.]

[That's some amazingly green hair. Mulder realizes he shouldn't be too surprised about that, consider what he's just witnessed her do.]

You can shift between those forms at will?

[Terra fidgets.]

...sort of. It's easy to shift to that other form, but I can only stay in it for a limited time even in this place.

[Ironically enough, the lessened power thanks to the barrier meant that she could manage it for a longer period of time, but she won't get into that. Instead, she glances down and judges the distance, then jumps downward.]

Um...aren't you cold?

[He's been so engaged in the mysterious Esper that Mulder had almost forgotten he's standing around half-naked covered in mud in early March.]

I could do with some real clothes, too, now that you mention it. Is there a place around here where I could find something like that?

[Terra starts to nod, then considers. She really doesn't want to show off her powers, but at the same time, she doesn't want a newcomer to freeze, either.]

Well, there's the clothing store. It ought to have your normal clothes there, by now. I...can teleport us there, if you don't mind.

You can teleport too? [Could this get any cooler? It's by far the most... interesting kidnapping experience he's had yet, anyway.] Sure, I'd really like to try that.

[She nods, self-conscious...then concentrates. A moment later, they're standing in the middle of a clothing store.]

[HOW COOL IS THAT? Mulder can't help it, he really did enjoy trying that out.]

Now that would have cut down on travel expenses... So I'm really free to just take whatever's mine?

[Terra can't help but smile a little, glad that he didn't freak out like some people have.]

Right. We don't have currency here, anyway. We just take what we need from the stores, and they replenish themselves at some point.

[Freak out? More like he wants to ask to do it again.]

That'll take some getting used to, but if it means I can get free cable... [Trails off, considering that.] What's the technology level like around here, anyway? [Mulder begins examining the clothing, picking up a garish outfit that looks like a mad clown threw it together. He makes a disturbed face and puts it back, going to the next row of clothing.]

[Terra stares at that garish outfit with revulsion, infinitely relieved when Mulder doesn't claim it as his own.]

Well, there's electricity, but no vehicles. We have indoor plumbing, iceboxes...I'm not sure what cable is, though.

[Mulder keeps going through clothing, intrigued by all the varying styles from other worlds.]

You mean there's no TV here? A box with moving pictures and sound in it?

[HOW DO THEY WATCH PORN?]

Oh, those exist. A friend of mine collects films to watch on them.

[But no live TV of any kind. Oh, well.]

They have VCRs and videos, at least?

[PROBLEM SOLVED THEN.]

Videos, yes, but...I haven't heard of VCRs. I think you play them on something else....

Hm... I'll have to look into that.

[Admittedly, entertainment is low on the priority list, BUT if he's going to be here a while, he might have to check it out.]

Ah, there we go. This looks like one of mine.

[It's a suit like he'd wear to work, as opposed to casual stuff. Considering the state of mind he's in about this place... he's definitely more in 'work' mode at the moment, so it makes sense.]

[Terra peers at it and nods. That's much better than the clown stuff.]

There's a changing room somewhere around here.

[Whoever owns those clown clothes is seriously mentally disturbed.]

Oh, right, I think I saw some as we came in... right over there. I won't be long.
