[Voice]

[There's a quiet crunching sound before Mulder speaks up, sounding thoughtful.]

Show of metaphorical hands. Or antennae, whichever you're partial to: Who here has been kidnapped for a special one-on-one date with our captors? I'd like to arrange an off-journal meeting to speak about your personal experiences if anyone happens to have some free time. It shouldn't take long, just a few minutes. I'll be hanging around the shops in town most of the day, I've got some... supplies I've been meaning to find. [Still looking for a basketball, woe and alas.] We can always head elsewhere from there, though.

I understand that it's a sensitive topic for most people, and it's all right if you'd rather not talk about it. Or if you'd rather be anonymous, just slip a note under my door detailing anything you can remember about the experience itself. Anything at all, before, during, after. Your answers will be kept in confidence. I'm in Community Building 7, Floor 2, Room 10.

There's a lot that I'd like to know, but since they're not willing to answer... we'll have to keep looking for the answers in other ways. That's why I'm gathering and compiling as much information as I possibly can, to find some pattern or something useful...

[Mulder notices that the work is going a lot quicker with the help, something he's glad to see.]

Any information that you can gather is an asset, here... a-and it is one of the few things I can... assist with.

[It's reassuring, even if it's paper-relate. Something repetitive, structured... like the motion equivalent of white noise.]

I still wish the Malnosso would... cooperate with us.

[Action]

[identity profile] ufo-fanboy.livejournal.com 2011-06-28 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
They won't... which is why we have to get creative with ways of figuring things out. I'm used to going up against people who won't play fair.

[It's nice to have someone around to talk while sorting all of this stuff, Mulder is finding... he'd be doing this alone otherwise.]

You would... not even entertain the p-possibility of anything otherwise? [Robert might be more hopeful than he lets on. If Molly will ever talk to him...

... And, really, Robert appreciates the company too. If he wasn't with Mulder, he'd probably be home alone right now.]

[Action]

[identity profile] ufo-fanboy.livejournal.com 2011-06-29 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I don't know... it's not the first time I've dealt with people like this, so I'd be wary of giving them the benefit of the doubt. For the most part. I'm open to still... trying any possibilities, though...

[Just not to getting his hopes up about anything.]

[Robert continues to organize the stacks of files, which are rapidly decreasing in size.]

I... am likewise open to the possibility.

Though, perhaps, it is... facetious to think they would be h-helpful...

[But they're scientists. They're the only real scientific community in the area. As terrifying and as rage-inducing as their methods are, Robert misses being a part of the process of science.]

[identity profile] ufo-fanboy.livejournal.com 2011-06-30 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
[They're making quick work of things, Mulder is glad about this.]

You can't be too careful. An old... I guess you could call him an associate, of mine, once spoke these words- 'trust no one'. [The man's dying words, from what he'd been told.] I suppose it's extreme to go that far, but you still want to be careful of people. Especially people in a position that the Malnosso are in.

[personal profile] semper_cogitans 2011-06-30 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
That is true, but at this point I wonder what would be... m-much worse than what they have already done.

[Does Robert sound like he's speaking a little more easily now? He's gradually getting more comfortable with Mulder - even though this is a face-to-face situation.]

... At any rate, I do not think we can get anywhere without at least an... attempt to reach out, in this regard. Though I certainly understand the a-arguments to the contrary.

[identity profile] ufo-fanboy.livejournal.com 2011-07-01 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Mulder does notice there's a difference, something he's glad to see.]

I won't deny that we at least could use an ally or two over there. Someone on the inside could be our ticket to finally changing things.

That... is what I hope.

[The last few papers on Robert's side are shuffled into what looks like a cohesive unit, and he stands up a little shakily.]

... Ah... w-well, it looks as though I have finished...

[Almost shyly:] Shall I assist with you as well, Mr. Mulder?

[He's not making excuses to stay or anything, nope.]

[Action]

[identity profile] ufo-fanboy.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
[And Mulder doesn't seem to mind at all.]

Go for it. You know, I might have some coffee or something if you'd like to stay a little longer once we're done...

[Robert takes his place next to Mulder instead, sorting out the files that he has left to organize.]

I... would be most obliged, Mr. Mulder.

[It feels good to be wanted around. Robert actually has friends. Sometimes he still can't get over that.]

[identity profile] ufo-fanboy.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Great, I'll get that going when we finish with this here.

[Mulder is glad for company too, he ends up spending way too much time alone usually, himself.]

[personal profile] semper_cogitans 2011-07-04 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
[It's funny, how somehow they've managed to click despite their mutual aversion to being around people.]

The sheer volume of data you have collected is... a-astounding. And most admirable...

... Is this essentially what you did for your career at home?

[Action ...hahaha oh wow that IS pretty impressive! XD

[identity profile] ufo-fanboy.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, I guess I really have managed to get around, in the months I've been here so far.

[He nods as he puts some things together and shoves them into a folder.]

I would investigate unexplainable crimes, anything with a paranormal angle to them... and then collect all the data I could. Evidence is really important when it comes to proving these things exist.

[Action] | It's the power of tl;dr c8

[personal profile] semper_cogitans 2011-07-04 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
I would... c-certainly agree with that.

... But if you have so much evidence, why does the scientific community of your multiverse not accept the existence of these phenomena...? After all, they would hardly be paranormal otherwise...

[Robert helps subdivide the papers and sort them, as best as he can, according to how Mulder's already doing so.]

[Action] yes! It is! XD *enjoys tldr, always*

[identity profile] ufo-fanboy.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It's hard to convince people on my world of new and unusual ideas. The majority aren't what I'd classify as 'open-minded.' [He sighs.] The evidence itself can be very hard to come by. That's one of many reasons why my work is so important, uncovering proof that these things exist...
semper_cogitans: (:/)

[Action] | Same here 8D

[personal profile] semper_cogitans 2011-07-05 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
That is... certainly an important task. But the s-scientific community should be open to new evidence...

[Though, Robert wonders dimly what exactly is being classified as "evidence" in this case.]

It is the same with... many other multiverses, here.

[Action] | :D!!!

[identity profile] ufo-fanboy.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's a shame that scientists aren't more open-minded, more willing to believe... even just coming here could open up a lot of people's minds to what's out there.

[Hell, even Mulder has come across a lot of surprises in this place.]

[personal profile] semper_cogitans 2011-07-05 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
In my experience - and, perhaps, I can o-only speak for Terran scientists - it is not so much "believing" as it is "coming to a conclusion that supports the evidence". One... d-does not establish a hypothesis before one looks at the evidence.

... This is why Terrans do not think magic and the like exists - because so far, there is absolutely no evidence for it...

... But that would change things, if magic - or other p-paranormal phenomena - could be replicated in laboratory conditions...

[Which is exactly what Helios could do. Robert is convinced of this. He is also convinced that Helios - and other magicians in his world - could singlehandedly revolutionize physics if they did such a demonstration...

... It's a pity that they're so afraid to.]

[Action]

[identity profile] ufo-fanboy.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds about right. I've mentioned my partner, Scully... as a scientist, she always needs direct evidence before she'll believe something. And even then, it's not until she goes through all the other possible explanations that she'll even consider a paranormal explanation...

I'd like to believe that science and magic can coexist, too. It'll just take time to get people used to the idea.

That is similar to myself, though obviously I have... had to learn to suspend disbelief to a degree, here in Luceti.

[Robert hums softly to himself.] In my world, magic was... considered physically impossible. As in, l-literally violating physics... So I am not certain how... easily they can coexist in other worlds.

... But here, it at least seems... marginally plausible.

[Action]

[identity profile] ufo-fanboy.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
They can coexist. I really believe that. Just because something doesn't fit the standard laws of physics doesn't mean it's any less real, after all.

If only I could bring the skeptics of my world here so I can prove a thing or two...
semper_cogitans: (:/)

[Action]

[personal profile] semper_cogitans 2011-07-08 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
No, I would agree on that part. But what is... standard for your world is not necessarily standard for mine, after all... That, in fact, s-seems to be the case of the many Terran multiversions represented by Luceti.

Though I admit: Luceti would... certainly be a way to inform skeptics. It... has done a remarkable job in my case. [It's so much easier to believe things exist when the evidence is actually incontrovertible.]

[Action]

[identity profile] ufo-fanboy.livejournal.com 2011-07-09 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
That's true, I've seen a lot that's never been seen in the world I'm from, a lot that I hadn't even come across before. It's been pretty exciting. [Finding paranormal things that he's never heard of is always kind of surprising to him.]

I'm glad this place has opened minds, yours included. If there's some good that's come out of this situation, it's that.
