[Mulder has more or less settled into an apartment with the things he's found so far from the shops... but that's not where he is at the moment. Too restless to hang around, and convinced he can figure something out, he's gone out on a trip to take a look at the barrier. He's even equipped himself with some camping gear he managed to find and enough supplies for a few days at least.]

[When he finally gets to the barrier, he wastes no time in emptying a clip as he shoots at it. Of course, it does nothing. And of course that doesn't mean he's about to give up so easily, he just needs to give it some more thought. He stays up well into the night at his 'campsite', thinking and wondering about the situation in general. Sleep, what's that? Eventually some other issues start weighing on his mind too, and he gets out his journal. He's too paranoid to ask about barrier breaking tips over the journals anyway, so he sticks to relatively safer topics.]

Since this is transmitted to the general population, I've got a few concerns I'd like to bring up...

First of all, I need to know if anyone has run across a Samantha Mulder or a Dana Scully at any time past or present during their stay here. It's really important that I get any information I can on either of them. [He pauses for a moment.]

...I'm also interested in learning more about these 'filial spirits' as the guide calls them. What's been the experience for any non-natural magic users in particular, did you find it very difficult to master their skills? Do most people find it easiest to start contacting those friendlier spirits and then going on from there?

I'd appreciate any information I can get.

It's a sort of magic anyone can use. Only Sorceresses can use magic naturally.

'Sorceresses'? So the only native magic-users are female? Interesting... What sort of spells are possible through para-magic?

[A handful of minutes or so after Mulder gets there, Squall shows up, his gunblade slung across his back as it usually is.]

[Mulder glances with interest at that gunblade.]

That's one hell of a weapon. The name is Mulder, by the way.

It's a gunblade. [Because clearly this information is more important than his name, which he adds after a slight pause.] Squall.

Combining a firearm and a blade... talk about multitasking. I bet it's really effective, too.

...Anyway, thanks for being so willing to show off that magic.

Mmm. It's not a weapon that's easy to master, though.

It's easier than trying to explain.

I can imagine... I'm looking forward to seeing it in action. [He glances around.] Just lead the way, this is my first time at this Battle Dome, though I've heard some information about it.

[Squall, nods and leads the way into the battle dome. Mostly, it looks about like what you'd expect from a training area, but for the controls at the far end, which Squall heads to.

[Mulder watches with fascination, mentally noting how that works with that console. He has his gun on him, and draws it now as mostly a precaution, should things get out of hand.]

You have monsters like this in your world?

[Squall nods. As for the simulated monsters, the don't seem real interested in attacking yet.]

Among others. These ones resist physical attacks. But they're weak to magic.

[Mulder notices that, but keeps a careful eye on them.]

That makes for a good choice, for showing off the magic.

Yeah.

Was there anything in particular you wanted to see first?

I'm not too sure what you've got in your magical arsenal, so go to it. How about something flashy?

It's serious overkill and it's going to be a pain to find more Flare, but he supposes he can spare on, and it's certainly flashy.]
