[Mulder has more or less settled into an apartment with the things he's found so far from the shops... but that's not where he is at the moment. Too restless to hang around, and convinced he can figure something out, he's gone out on a trip to take a look at the barrier. He's even equipped himself with some camping gear he managed to find and enough supplies for a few days at least.]

[When he finally gets to the barrier, he wastes no time in emptying a clip as he shoots at it. Of course, it does nothing. And of course that doesn't mean he's about to give up so easily, he just needs to give it some more thought. He stays up well into the night at his 'campsite', thinking and wondering about the situation in general. Sleep, what's that? Eventually some other issues start weighing on his mind too, and he gets out his journal. He's too paranoid to ask about barrier breaking tips over the journals anyway, so he sticks to relatively safer topics.]

Since this is transmitted to the general population, I've got a few concerns I'd like to bring up...

First of all, I need to know if anyone has run across a Samantha Mulder or a Dana Scully at any time past or present during their stay here. It's really important that I get any information I can on either of them. [He pauses for a moment.]

...I'm also interested in learning more about these 'filial spirits' as the guide calls them. What's been the experience for any non-natural magic users in particular, did you find it very difficult to master their skills? Do most people find it easiest to start contacting those friendlier spirits and then going on from there?

I'd appreciate any information I can get.

Meditated. A lot.

Maybe I'll try a little meditating while I'm out on my camping trip. It couldn't hurt to try and see if anyone responds...

[If you can manage it with "a little" meditating, then you are a better spirit-contactor than he.]

Camping has worked for me. I started with Nala by the lake and I had luck with Kipinn in the mountains.

I'll be passing one of the lakes on my way back, I'll be sure and make a stop off to see what I can accomplish.

[Little does Mulder know it'll take more time and effort than even he realizes... but he's definitely strongly motivated.]

...Guess I'd better look into some decent mountain climbing equipment sometime, too.

I didn't need any, but I didn't go very far up. [And, you know, he's a ninja.]

That's also good to hear. My mountain-climbing skills in general are more than a bit rusty.

Not much time for it?

You could say that. I travel around sometimes with my work, but really... that work has been my main focus for a long time now. I call it being passionate, though others have called it 'obsessive'...

What do you do?

I'm an FBI agent, and if that doesn't mean much to you, think of that as an investigator of sorts. [He's already adjusting to the idea of people potentially being from other worlds.] My investigations focus on unexplainable phenomena, the paranormal... basically anything that can't be defined by conventional means.

[Go go negative reaction. Somewhat tempered by the fact that he's recently met a very congenial astrobiologist.]

Alien science, it turns out. A technological byproduct with unexpected mutagenic properties.

I knew it... I knew there had to be civilizations with that advanced level of technology. I've come across some unusual things myself, involving alien/human hybrids, and some other alien substances with unusual side effects... but this is beyond even most of that.

Um... yes. I know of several.

And I'm not quite one-of-a-kind either.

[Because you non-humans ARE really awesome. Way more so when alien-anything is involved.]
