[Late at night, Mulder is up and about, wandering aimlessly. He's just received Scully's letter so of course that's sending him into a bit of a broody mindset. Sleep? Ha, no, he's not planning to sleep for a while.]

[On the one hand, she's free of all of this. On the other... she's gone. His partner. The one person he trusts more than anyone. And what she's returning home to doesn't sound very pleasant. It's the future relative to him so he has no way of knowing just how safe she really is. He's not supposed to worry, but he can't stop himself from doing so anyway. The troubling thoughts that always come up at these times are there to bother him, too...]

How do we know they really send us home when we vanish from here, anyway?

[Yeah, this is what happens when you overthink everything.]

For anyone who knew... anyone who knows her, Dana Scully has left the building. I'm sure she's relieved to be somewhere a bit more down to earth.

[It's a sleepless night for Don - not so unusual, especially with what's been on his mind lately. When he sees this message, he trusts Mulder enough to respond.]

More than one eyewitness is probably a good sign, then... I'm wondering, because I can't for the life of me figure out their patterns. What makes them decide all of a sudden to send someone home?

[Why send them away when they seem all too eager to get test subjects in the first place?]

They don't decide. It just happens.

So it's completely random, the same as when we're allegedly pulled in?

Maybe random isn't the right word for it, but it's not on purpose either. That's the way I understand it.

So if we could just understand more about what brings us here in the first place... we might figure out why and how it sends us away...

People have been trying to do exactly that for years, Mr. Mulder.

I'm used to this kind of situation back home, and there's too much I have to find out to ever give up.

[The alien abduction that started it all! Alleged abduction, as Scully would put it, ah Scully. Even not here and Mulder can't help but hear a little nagging inner voice that's like her.]

[In a completely serious and sympathetic tone:] Yes. She was kidnapped by aliens.

Right. And I've been looking for her ever since. [So people disappearing, yeah, that situation is kind of normal. Add in a dash of conspiracy by people in charge and it's even more unnervingly close to this place.] She's not the only one who was taken from me. Scully also was abducted for a while, though she was returned soon after. But not after she was used unwillingly as a test subject, like so many other abductees.

All of my searching for the truth about these extraterrestrials has brought me up against a conspiracy in our government, one which guards its secrets a little too well.

Mr. Mulder, are you sure you're not from my world?

[They'd definitely discussed the similarity before, and he has to wonder.]

If not your world specifically, a very close alternate version of it.

On the subject of home, did I answer your original question?

I think so... It's proof enough that we definitely return, anyway.
