[Finally, after all this time! Mulder has found that much-desired basketball. He's in luck too, as it's well-inflated, not a sign of wear or tear on it. Too many times, he's come across half-deflated or otherwise messed up ones. But this one is perfect. It's as if there's finally some compensation for all the usual rounds of disappearances and so on. He's really needed this. He starts dribbling the ball right as he leaves the shop and continues bouncing the thing everywhere he goes throughout the day. It can also be heard in the background of his voice transmission.]

Does anyone have any unique birthday traditions they care to share? I wonder how similar these traditions might be between the worlds... Let's just say I'm curious, for purely theoretical reasons.

...By the way, is there anyone out there who'd be up for shooting some hoops or even getting together a pick-up game of basketball? Of course, we'd actually need to throw together a hoop somehow first, but minor details! If you've never played before, I promise I'll go easy on you.

Define unique birthday tradition.

Something other than the standard cake-song-presents-goofy-hats-with uncomfortable-elastic. Though I'm open to "unusual birthday stories" just the same.

[Because any mundane party can be interrupted by random supernatural phenomena.]

Does throwing the birthday celebrant into a shark tank count?

Hoops? What are those? I've never shot a hoop.

[ Tenten is probably the densest when it comes to the human world at least she learns fast. I mean, after all, if she's a ninja with amazing accuracy sports are probably great for her! ]

Shooting hoops, Mullally? I am in the mood to shoot something this fine day...

I think I'll have to ask whether you have what you might consider any unique birthday traditions first. I'm...not at all certain what constitutes one, at least from my world.

...I didn't know you played basketball.

When I was growing up, they'd hold us upside down and bump our heads on the floor for good luck.

Could it be that it's your birthday?

I always knew that a tank of ravenously hungry sharks was missing from my boyhood parties... Was this an intentional throwing?
shadedsunlight: (I look at you and smile because I'm fine)

Intentional, tradition was only found within select circles. Shots with the beverage of their choice equal to their birthday, then being thrown into the shark tank.

Shark tank, in this term being a tank full of water with a shark. Sometimes it's a real shark, usually some realistic pool floats. I think one year they managed a tank full of those blue gummy sharks.

voice is good! XD

[Mulder was expecting confusion, so he's easygoing about that.]

There's no guns actually involved, so it's not that kind of shooting. It's a game, played with a bouncy orange ball. The goal is to toss the ball into a hoop as many time as possible, and try to prevent your opponent from tossing it in more times.

[To go with the very basic idea.]

[identity profile] ufo-fanboy.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'm afraid this is a non-gun type of shooting. No hoops will be harmed in the playing of this game. Usually. Is something wrong, Captain?

Anything aside from cake, singing, and so on. Bonus points for anything paranormal that may have been involved.

Then you have no idea how long I've been looking for a good basketball around here. It's a pretty good way to unwind in my free time- uh, whatever free time I ever have, that is.

Ouch, I'm getting a headache just thinking about it. They didn't give you a bump for every year or anything, did they?

Ah, you've seen through my clever disguise! That would be a definite yes.

Then, please let me say Happy Birthday. I hope you enjoy it.

Suddenly that sounds a lot more appealing. I'd definitely rather meet up with Floaty the Inflatable as opposed to Jaws. So it was just limited to people you knew? Family and Friends?

The only time I've ever seen a real shark was when they put a tank inside a tank and filled both with water. Some baby sharks in the outer tank, guy in the middle, but with all the water, you couldn't tell there were two tanks.

Some groups I knew. They had some pretty wild birthday traditions.

Thanks a lot, Ami, I appreciate it. [He bounces the ball a few times, thinking about that. It's not like he'd have been doing anything too different back home. Aside from, well... Scully would have been around.] I'll try to make the most of it. Being sane without experimental side effects is a pretty kick-ass start.

I've been... scuba diving. That and I've dealt with unidentifiable sea monsters, but I'm pretty sure I'd rather not take my chances with sharks.

It sounds like people really know how to party, where and when you're from. Or at least, to put on a pretty unique shindig.

[Voice]

[identity profile] no-use-running.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'd like to do something for you, but I'm not sure what you'd like.

[identity profile] projectiled.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
[ Oh. That sounds really easy. So easy a caveman can do it! She was trained for this! She has the speed, the accuracy, and the.... something else! ]

A gun? [ SHE SHOOTS KNIVES OUT OF SCROLLS> ] I think I can manage to do that. It sounds like a fun game though.

shadedsunlight: (Well well well)

Unidentifiable sea monsters?

Some groups really knew how to have a good time. Other options too. Like replacing birthday pinches or spanks with being shot with paintballs an equal amount of times to ones age. And strippers. Always strippers.
