[Finally, after all this time! Mulder has found that much-desired basketball. He's in luck too, as it's well-inflated, not a sign of wear or tear on it. Too many times, he's come across half-deflated or otherwise messed up ones. But this one is perfect. It's as if there's finally some compensation for all the usual rounds of disappearances and so on. He's really needed this. He starts dribbling the ball right as he leaves the shop and continues bouncing the thing everywhere he goes throughout the day. It can also be heard in the background of his voice transmission.]

Does anyone have any unique birthday traditions they care to share? I wonder how similar these traditions might be between the worlds... Let's just say I'm curious, for purely theoretical reasons.

...By the way, is there anyone out there who'd be up for shooting some hoops or even getting together a pick-up game of basketball? Of course, we'd actually need to throw together a hoop somehow first, but minor details! If you've never played before, I promise I'll go easy on you.

Basically, I felt a compulsion to find a legendary sword and kill every dragon I could find. I went into the woods for days looking for a dragon, but, to no avail.

Ahh, yes, the experiment. I think we all got more than our standard share of the fairytale genre on that one. Here's hoping they don't try horror or worse, Ice Capades, next.

Ice Capades....? Is that some sort of snow movie? [ On a scale of one to ten, Tenten gets a twenty on the confusion scale. ]

I'm convinced it was a form of torture secretly invented by Soviets back in the Cold War. [Half-joking, half-serious on that one.] But for all intents and purposes, it involves... people ice skating. Theatrically.

That sounds so boring, and, really weird. [ Seriously? What kind of sorcery is this... There are better things to spend your time on doing stuff besides Acting.... ON ICE... ]

That's exactly how I feel about it. It's best it never happened. [At least he can spread the word on what to avoid at all costs, too. He feels his day is more complete somehow.]

Why would anyone pick that over watching the Chuunin exam finals or anything? [ Ice Capades will be dying a slow death thanks to the combined efforts of Foxy and Tenten. ]

With entertainment like the World Series or Superbowl, I have no idea. But what are the Chuunin exam finals?

The Chuunin exam finals is the final of the Chuunin exams, when a Genin takes it to be promoted to a Chuunin. The five great ninja countries, and the lesser countries, hold a competition to see who has the most adequate fighters to become a Chuunin. It's basically a tourney style fight where one showcases techniques, intelligence, skill and strength. The proctors usually decide if you're made a Chuunin. You don't have to win a fight to be made a Chuunin, so this means all participants can be made Chuunin or none can.

You have entire countries of ninjas?[He can't help grinning at the thought. Ninjas are just one of those instantly cool things.] That sounds intense... and exciting. I could see why it's a spectator event.

Ninjas run everything back home. The leader of a village is a ninja, the police are a ninja. We're basically free lance people that either go on dangerous missions, or, if we're just starting, low-level ones like helping out civillians. We're basically employed for the village and for the people. The tournaments are very intense. There's a huge possibility you can end up heavily injured, or dead. [ Her voice suddenly gains seriousness with the last statement because... if she talked about death with a smile on her face that'd just be creepy. ]

So despite the spectator aspect, there's a much more serious side to these tournaments. [And of course he has to wonder, given how quick she is, how well she catches on to sports...] Have you participated in any of them?

Yes, generally. The five nations had some very tense relations until recently, so, these tournaments have even influenced wars when one nation sees that a weaker doesn't have very competent fighters, they just simply invade them.

I participated in the Chuunin exams twice. The first time I couldn't make it past the preliminaries. I fought someone who was basically walking kryptonite. [ Her fighting a wind user is like bringing a gun to a knife fight. ] But, after a year of training, I breezed passed it and was promoted to Chuunin with my teammates.

Sounds like an especially tough opponent. That's really impressive that you made it past one of those exams.

[It makes the FBI Academy seem easy, by comparison.]

Well, I faced different opponents during both exams. The second one was hard, but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. I just had to pin his body to the ground and get over the fact that he basically screwed up my entire perception by reversing directions and even depth.

[ Most American organizations are easy compared to the Chuunin exam, yes. ]

So he had some kind of superpower?

[Yeah, even if he'll never see this place and its competitions, the whole thing is just SO COOL and fascinating to Mulder.]

Yeah, but those types of things are rather common where I'm from. Well, not that ability specifically but that abilities that have various effects, like causing miniature tornados that slice you, summoning weaponry from scrolls to rain down on your opponent, creating fists that are on fire from sheer friction and speed and launching them, manipulating shadows, even walking on walls and ceilings and water but those are more mundane stuff.

[ SHE'LL BE WILLING TO DEMONSTRATE WITH SOMEONE. Because she is sort of a glory hound. ]

That's incredible... and quite a range of talent, too. Or is it a case where people specialize in one certain ability or variety of abilities?

Some people specialize in one type of fighting style. Shikamaru Nara, one of my colleagues here, uses shadows to bind and then sew his opponent. Or slice him with his shadows. I specialize in weaponry and summoning weapons from scrolls to rain down on my opponents. I could have taken up elemental ninjutsu, but I decided to stick to various weapons, because Guy-sensei noticed I had talents with space-time ninjutsu. However, sometimes there are people that utilize multiple types of elemental attacks or styles, but that's considerably rare. Even then, fighting styles and how people use these attacks are mostly limited to one person, which is odd if you think about it. People are able to learn whatever techniques they wish, those most are closely guided secrets by clans. If you learn it, you can, in theory use it. The only time this won't apply is with kenkei genkai, techniques which are inherited through genetics.

You know, with the battledome, I might be able to recreate opponents I've faced for us to spectate.

[He loves it, all of this. To think there's an entire world of all of these mysterious - and admittedly really damn cool- fighting techniques. Shadows that slice! Messing with space-time! He could devote a whole section of files just to all of this.]

I'd like to see those, sometime- I'd be fascinated by any and all of it. Most of what you've mentioned is so different than anything I've encountered before...

[And he's encountered a lot in his time.]

[ Indeed, and Tenten would be all too happy to talk about it! ]

All right. I'll be sure to set it sometime. I think I can give you a brief demonstration right here.

[ Out of Tenten's hidden pocket is a very small scroll, it's barely an inch in height. She holds it between her index and thumb finger before nodding. ] You see this, right?

That sounds good to me, I'm always up for a little show and tell.

[Mulder nods then, peering at the scroll curiously.]

[ Tenten flicks her finger, launching the the scroll several meters up into the air. Fox should see the interesting writing patterns as Tenten taps the back of the scroll. Without any warning, any and all parts of the scroll above Fox will shoot out. A vast array of weapons, swords, needles, knives, tiger claws, flails, kunais and shuriken, swarm over his head before crashing into a wall. ]

It's pretty much that. Though there are other things I can summon from my scrolls.

[Ok, THAT... was a really cool demonstration. He looks really intrigued by this.]

I can see how this would help in the middle of a fight... What else can you summon?

[ She seals the items. They quickly disappear in a puff of smoke as Tenten coils the scroll once more. ]

Melee weaponry, fireballs, exploding dragons, ships, metal dolls, grenades, even other scrolls!
