[There's a squelching sound of someone falling into a very muddy area. Then that someone curses under his breath, followed by the distinct sound of some very angry toads who he's disturbed. Many of whom also curse along with the general annoyed croaking.]
Hello? Who's there? Who said that? Scully, are you with me? Can you hear me? SCULLY!?!
[There's a pause, and more muddy squelching. And more grumpy voices in the background as Mulder appears to have fallen into a whole clan of toads. He seems to take this in stride though, thinking aloud as he tries to gain his bearings. He picks up the book that's near him and eyes it curiously. It's very out of place here, but he's already drawing his own conclusions.]
Let me guess. I've finally been abducted by aliens. I knew it was a matter of time, but somehow I always assumed the experience would involve less falling face down in the mud, and more probing.
Not that I want any probing, I'll pass on that opportunity.
So now the question is- aside from where the hell are my real clothes- where am I? My theories include afterlife or parallel dimension, maybe a mix of the two with a dash of government-initiated kidnapping thrown in. It's not every day you wake up in someone else's clothes with wings sprouting out of your back for no reason. Wings that hurt like a bitch when I pull on the feathers, I might add.
[Yeah he already tried that. Is it really any surprise he's already tried that?]
So what's going on here? Who's responsible for this? Was I subjected to an experiment of some kind? Kept imprisoned as a test subject and cast off to the wilderness as soon as they were done with me? Is this Russia? It better not be Russia. I didn't have such great accommodations the last time I went there.
[...and is it just him or are ALL of the toads in the area looking ready to gang up on him? He's deciding he's overstaying his welcome here. Time to get moving. In some direction. So Mulder can be found hurrying the rest of the way through the woods and into town. He's covered in mud and followed close behind by a whole bunch of very disgruntled toads.]

[Voice]
They never show themselves, unfortunately. Otherwise, we would have found them long ago. They don't even show themselves during experiments or draft times; when they need people, they just send the droids. You might hear them speak over the journal, though that only happens occasionally.
[Voice]
[He's getting pretty worked up, but something has caught his attention. Of course, it couldn't be too easy, could it?]
...'Experiments and drafts'? You mean there's more to it than the wings?
[Voice]
...and yes, there's more. At least once a month, the Malnosso perform a town-wide experiment. Not everyone gets affected, but most do, and there's no way to prevent or prepare for it. Sometimes they kidnap individual people for experimentation, too. As for the drafts, that's when they take us to fight the Third Party, a group outside the barrier that wants nothing more than to destroy us and this place.
[Voice]
[Oh Mulder. So determined, so unaware yet of how futile the situation is. But he really is convinced he'll be able to find a way out of this.]
So there's more than one group out to get us...
...These Malnosso running the experiments... are they human?
[And does one of them stand around dramatically smoking cigarettes?]
[Voice]
More or less. They have wings like us, but that's all I really know of the differences.
So, what do you see around you? Any landmarks? I can help direct you to town.
[Voice]
[Voice]
...and yes, the animals talk. I'm guessing you found that out the hard way?
[Voice]
[He's moving along, getting to a much less muddy area. Every so often he hears quiet toad-noises in the background.]
...I think I pissed off a few toads when I arrived.
[Voice]
Well, it could have been worse. At least you know now.
Once you reach town, I can show you where to find your things. For some reason, the Malnosso send our things with us, but never on hand. We have to find them in the shops.
[Voice]
[Even to him, this whole thing seems pretty surreal. At least he's not far from that river, so this won't take long...]
Right, following the water now...
[Voice]
[Voice]
[He's still continuing along, gradually getting closer to town. All the running about earlier means he's pretty close already.]
[Voice]
[Voice]
[Suddenly, Mulder is having a faint glimmer of... hope. Maybe. He doesn't dare to let himself get too excited, but what if Samantha is here? It would explain so much.]
It looks like I'm approaching a clearing... I see some buildings ahead...
[Voice]
[Oh right, other questions.]
Well, I've been here just over two years, and I know this has been happening at least a year before that. It wouldn't surprise me if the Malnosso had been doing things like this for years, though.
[Voice]
Would you happen to know if there's a listing or directory of people who've been taken here? I'd... be curious to know if someone I know was taken here.
[Voice]
Who are you looking for?
[Action]
Rydia? [He approaches her.] The person I'm looking for... Her name's Samantha Mulder. She'd be... about four years younger than me. Or possibly eight years old. I know that sounds confusing...
[Action]
No, not really. They take people from other times as well as other worlds.
[She frowns in thought, but shakes her head.]
The name doesn't sound familiar, but that doesn't mean she won't arrive. I'll see what I can find out, especially as this cycle continues.
[Action]
I'd appreciate it. If you could also keep an eye out for someone by the name of Scully, that's Dana Scully... she's someone else I'd like to know about, if she ends up here.
...Is there any sort of pattern to why they choose certain people?
[Action]
Not really. Sometimes, the people that arrive are the only ones from their worlds. Other times, there can be around a dozen from the same place. There's also a good mix of people with magic and those without, as well as races other than human.
[Action]
[And she does have some kind of 'otherworldly' look to her overall, she's definitely not anyone he'd expect to see in his version of the earth.]
[Action]
That's a longer story that you probably want, but it's...very different from here. Not nearly as advanced when it comes to technology, but magic is a well-known force, and we have plenty of monsters, as well as other beings. There's a world beneath the surface that's inhabited, and even a civilization on the moon....
[Well, once they wake up.]
